If we go down that route all faction forums may as well be viewable by all, but only faction members are allowed to post, otherwise those who are only in once or no factions are serrious disadvantaged by the rest as to what is going on in Folderol.

Well, I don't know about that. I think the faction forums should still only be viewable by those who have PC's as members. I mean, I won't have PC's in all factions and I don't want to read what is going on in the others (or be tempted). I want some element of surprise. What would be nice is to have like a story or timeline of Folderol events posted under the Campfire or other suitable forum. This would be the relevant general information that pretty much all PC's would be aware of. Then any special movements or actions/reactions by various factions could be discussed with the DM's so that it all fits with the overall world design. Based on that information, the aforementioned timeline could be posted on a semi-regular basis. That would make everything seem more "alive" and evolving.

Even better, maybe the storyteller at the Sheikh Sperry could be primed with rumours of what faction "action" has taken place in the recent past. These would be strictly rumours, and not necessarily proper accounts of what has happened.
In fact, I'd prefer it if the faction leaders were to write these rumours and submit them to DMs. This would save on work for the DMs, who would then only have to alter the tales on the teller's list, and mean that leaders could put their own spin on events, which could then be edited by DMs if appropriate.

For example: "Members of the XXXX faction ambushed two members of the YYYY faction in the forest outside Nulbton, and took advantage of the element of surprise to give their rivals a sound thrashing. Although a wood elf scout who witnessed this struggle reported to his superiors that it was nothing more than a messy scramble, and neither side could draw glory from it, the leaders of the XXXX faction are claiming a notable victory."
Pig: [Tell] OK, that's fine with me. :)

From a DM point of view it would be useful to be able to see all the faction info. At present I have to go on what I pick up in game and currently with my training commitments, this will not always be very much!

The Poll is now closed. After consideration, the current system regarding faction / guild membership and access to the forums will remain unchanged. I was a bit disappointed at that only 13 people were interested in voting on this issue.
